Table on the Marsh
A dining table for all patterns
I won a competition to design a dining table for Walthamstow Marsh. East London has a history of street parties, and people used to adorn the long line of tables in the street with a rich patchwork of different people’s everyday table cloths.
I wanted to incorporate table cloth patterns from the current residents of Walthamstow, so we held workshops, went door knocking, and gathered a spread of different patterns and quotes which were engraved onto the surface of the table. The table is made by Giles Thaxton out of green oak using traditional mortice and tenon joints.
